I know it's kind of cliched to do a winter-y mix moodboard. Actually, it's incredibly cliched to make moodboards in general, sometimes they just scream "I'm no creative so let me just smash some brilliant tumblr pick or stuff I stole from Style Rookie" Anyway, I wanted to do a playlist but 8tracks was being a pain in the ass so I just decided to take a collection of images that sort of have that femme fatale vibe. I guess I should go on to now list my new years resolutions. This also is cliched and I don't make resolutions generally because they never pull through. Life is life, we can try to change things but in the end I don't really think it matters.
Thats all.

Bill Cosby called, He wants his sweater back

Obligatory Dancing Face

This isn't blurry because I'm a bad photographer I'm just soooo introspective

Sweater: Salvation Army, Skirt: American Apparel, Bag: *Vintage*, Pin: From Meagan of Latter Style

Details so beautiful it will make your pet ferret cry the river Styx

Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate and such!
I'd write you some sob story about how awful it is that I haven't posted in x amount of days but honestly, who in the name of mod gives two hoots about it.
Anywho! I feel this title is very apt because one of my friends said this to me and I nearly peed myself. It is unbelievably vital that I post the crown jewel of my sweater collection before the Holidays really kick off. I guess it kind of reminds me of Meadham Kirchhoff ss12 in the fact that it looks like a toddler vomited a beautiful birthday cake covered masterpiece.(specifically this meadham kirchhoff toddler)

Notice how intelligent and fashion blogger like that last sentence sounded! Please email me your virtual high-fives please and thank you.
Wow. I'm quite the oddball. Basically, this sweater is obviously a work of art and I think that is all to be said.
p.s the next interviewee is Meagan from Latterstyle
please keep the butch 2 submissions comin' GOT IT?!

Confessions of a Female Drag Queen: An Interview

Hi everyone!
First of all, apologies on not doing an interview this past month. I was swamped with school and such. Anyways, Stella Rose is a groovy Seattle native turned New Yorker who writes Confessions of a Female Drag Queen. Her unbelievably flamboyant and dare I say, kawaii style she has easily made her way into my list of favorite bloggers. She also has her own clothing line which I am obsessed with, to say the least.

What is it like being Stella Rose?
Sparkly, wiggy... Right now being Stella rose is a bit hectic but I've been staying as glamorous as I can through the chaos. A vintage dress and a little eye liner will get you through even the craziest of times.

How does New York differ from Seattle?

The pace here is remarkably fast. I find myself doing 10 things at once at nearly all times. It really pushes you to be the best you can be which is great!

What is the most bizarre outfit you've ever worn?

I've dressed as a cake as well as cotton candy. I've worn both Pokemon cards and the game Twister. I've dressed in trash bags on multiple occasions as well as burlap sacks. I'm not sure which outfit was the most bizarre but the bags and sacks were certainly the most comfortable!

What is the secret to being the perfect female drag queen??
A sense of humor, a wild imagination, and a steady hand.

What should people know about your shop?
Right now people should know that it is half closed due to my recent move. I'm taking special orders via email but I want to fully reopen as soon as possible! I have so many design ideas cooked up but I've been fighting with time to create them. It's such a process.

What kind of clothing are you digging this season?
Silk tops, vintage furs, and glitter everything!

Any tips for someone moving to the city?
Make sure you have a goal. You can't survive here if you have nothing you are working towards. Take steps toward your goal everyday and be ready to work harder than ever to make your dreams a reality.

You make turbans for your line, what about them do you find so rad?
They flatter nearly everyone and they work wonders on a bad hair day!

Best movie about animals?
The boneyard. Though it isn't actually about animals, it does star a killer poodle.

You seem to have had some pretty rad hairstyles throughout the time you've blogged, if you could do anything in the world with your hair...what would you do??
Use a magic dye that would turn my hair a different color everyday to match any outfit! In the mean time I'm doing a big hair change soon! Keep watch!

Favorite type color of glitter?
My moms old jars of silver and gold glitter from 80's makeup brand "Paint".

What would you say has changed the most since you started blogging?
My blog started out primarily as a space to share my club looks and personal style. Since then it has grown into a much more well rounded fashion blog. I think my blog will go in a lot interesting directions as i work to create my fashion line.

Thanks Stella! You can check out her blog here

My Big Fat Pseudo Bohemian Hipster Holiday Gift Guide

Art Credit: Autumn Sorman

At Some Point in your life you've encountered one, or perhaps at some point in your life you were one. Fact of the matter is, those awful hipster kids exist. With their ironic style, and their "who gives a shit I can smoke weed in CVS." way of life, I bet the last thing you want to do is buy them gifts for the holiday of the current religion they practice (Hint: It's probably Taoism because the tao is the way maaaan)

Holiday Gift Guide: Hipster
TopShop scalloped skirt, £38
TopShop panties thong, $8
T.U.K. punk rock shoes, $70
American Apparel vintage looking jewelry, $16
ASOS oversized jewelry, $11
Ray-Ban tortoiseshell sunglasses, $145
Manic Panic colour cream - green hair dye- manic panic hair 36988 UK, £9.95
Neon Nail Polish, $6
Supreme: Snow White Oxford Shirt - Red, $136
Supreme: Bolivia Beanie - Navy, $30
8" Talking Angry Bird Pig Plush - Plain - One Size, $15
Urban Outfitters - Animal Farm, £8.99

If you know anything about Hipsters, you know they like super ironic gifts. Your hipster niece would kill to get her hands on the newest edition of the communist manifesto because you know like Marx totally gets her angst. It's like he's speaking at her! She will also love distopia themed books like 1984! The other thing about hipsters is they love super dorky stuff like angry birds pillows! You know like it's super crazy to have like an over-rated child's ipod game in stuffed animal form! Great for parties!
But what the key to hipster clothing searches is the iconic pair of ray-bans. It's cool to look like your in DEVO. Get with it mom and dad.
Music can be tricky as your hipster may have a taste ranging from Beethoven (he's a genius) to Joy Division (Love will tear us apart is totally like that time were I broke up with my girlfriend because turns out I'm straight) Or even current electronic sensation Justice (D.A.N.C.E reminds me of that time were i did LSD because I was at this Coldplay concert and I was having bad menstrual cramps so I asked if anyone has motrin but oopsies! It was LSD)

Credit: Ghost World

Good Luck this season with buying your hipster presents for what ever practice they follow (Once again, how much you want to bet they're a taoist)
You'll probably fail because hipsters hate everything!

You are such a PYT catching all the lights

Coat: My mom's from the 90's. Dress: Thrifted. Tiara: Party City. Doc Martens: Vintage from Etsy.

Hi Campers!
Sorry blehh I've been wicked busy. I'm directing my high school's musical and such. Also I was in Montreal this past weekend with my debate team (i know what your thinking: wow this girl is a massive nerd) It was so freaking rad! This was actually my maiden voyage to Canada, A couple of rad things I did there besides debating over foreign policy:
I walked through the Red Light District and saw a bunch of creepers
I went to timmy ho-ho's more times than i think is legal around 1 with my friends
I used Montreal bathrooms!
I got verbally accosted by a man on the metro!
I was asked if I was a drag queen
Actual boys talked to me!
J'ai parle beaucoup de francais!
Sorry, I am well aware you would rather me talk about fashion, but I figured it might be fun to talk about how much of a teenager I am these days.
Anyways, I've continued on this very angsty form of style. I've been wearing tiaras, floral crowns, leather jackets, oh and a ton of doc martens. I was on etsy and I scored these bad boys I'm wearing. They are literally my favorite shoes, they're all clunky and clownish. Basically I have a shoe fetish. I've sort of been trying to incorporate Meadham Kirchhoff's ss12 collection; ironic kinderwhore and such. Although it's a bit of a fail, I'm actually genuinely comfortable wearing this clothing to school. Last year I had to force my self to dress eclectic but it sort of comes naturally to me now. If you know what I mean.
On another note! I was on Rookie! I literally jumped up and down when I saw the question and answer article I did. Therefore, hello new readers :D
Finally, I just sent out zines. Really. If you asked for one it will be coming this week.

Woodland Lady/ Contest!

Crown: DIY. Dress: made by bryce

I am so tired otherwise I would write a suggestive limerick about teen girls in the woods and art projects. Basically a girl from school asked me to model this sick dress she made (insert paragraph contrasting the dress to Mary Katrantzou's aw 11 collection) She took the pictures on this woodsy area off a nearby development (insert super meaningful and nostalgic recollections about the suburbs and arcade fire's Sprawl II) I figured it would be interesting to do a post in this very rough sense because you know, life in general is kind of like that, open for interpretation, opened ended and never really finished until the fat lady sings. Yeah, interpret this however you want.
A few unrelated notes:
Unfortunately I am not going to have time to mail zines, I'm leaving for Canada on Thursday and have a ton of stuff to do prior to that.
Also, This months interviewee will be chosen via contest *hooray* leave a comment about what you would wear to a dinner with the following people: Princess Leia, ADR, Eleanor Roosevelt, Miuccia Prada, and the Proenza Boys. YAY! Winner will be announced the Tuesday before American Thanksgiving!

Whatever you do i can do better

Hey guys!
Hooray! Finally got around to doing an outfit post. So this was my Halloween costume; I was Cortney Love. It was awesome, although to my dismay almost nobody knew who she was. psh my school is so uncultured. Yay teen narcissism!
Anyway, if you asked for a digital copy I am emailing them tonight so look at for that.
Lately I've been really into angry prom queens and such. I really just love the way that all works. I'm not really making sense am I? I've had so much homework this week I can barley focus on anything else!
Well that's all for now folkz!

Oh and the 4th picture is Petra Collins. I love her!
One last thing, I hate being one these "omgfollowthem" people but one of my close friends started music blog and it's legitimately good so look at it

We still are talking about Butch

Hi guys!
Sorry I haven't been posting lately. School has been insane these days. I figured I'd not make this wordy and do a vlog.
Please email me subscriptions at: romabkins@gmail.com!
Oh by the way, hello new followers!

Kimmi Is all alone

AAH YOU GUYS THIS IS HAPPENING cover of Butch, issue 1, picture by Paolina Russo

Hi Guys,
So semi-recently someone asked me what I look like with zero makeup on. Well here you have it. My face in the raw. I don't like wearing a ton of makeup. I guess I wear eccentric lip colors and eyeliner wings but I'm not into rat makeup like most of the girls in my school. Rat makeup is basically a poorly done smokey eye with also poorly done contouring. I have to admit this is what I wore in middle school but yeah.
Anyway, I've been super occupied by Butch lately. As well as schoolwork and such. But honestly I've been so abnormally tired and caught up with being a teenager. I'm always confused by my adolescence. I know there are plenty of scientific explanations as to why I'm so moody and my heterosexualness (shocker I like boys and I'm writing a feminist zine. They say it wasn't so!) but honestly it's pretty bizarre.
I have so much to say in this post but I can't quite put it all to words. Butch is running smooth. Speaking of which, submit! I love people who submit because they make me gleeful and such.
OH! I also saw my first concert. I saw Asteroids Galaxy tour. They were super rad, It was one of the strangest and greatest experiences I've had as a teen. Mette is super rad. She told me she liked my outfit which has definitely been pushing me to continue to dress oddly.
More on that in an upcoming blog post

An Ode to Fluff

So for this months *blogger feature* I choose Eline, from A Fluff Blog. Eline is super quirky and has a great taste in humor as well as clothing and odd little trinkets. She is the epitome of cool and has a siick wardrobe.

What is so fabulous about fluff, there seems to be a constant theme on your blog about it?

There is nothing not fabulous about fluff! I just really really love touching it and its look; you can either go super vintage femme with it or sweet childish girl, which are both looks that I obviously love. But I guess this also comes from my love for animals and my secret wish of actually being a cute little house cat (preferably in my mother's and father's house during the 80s because they fed our cats fresh cod fish and I am all for fresh, raw fish!).

Who are your current favorite super heroes?
Fionna and Cake!

What was it like to be in Worn Journal?
So cool! Worn Journal is one of my favourite magazines and I'm very happy that they love me too :D.

What is the greatest item of clothing you have ever seen in your life?
This is a hard question! My love for clothing fluctuates quite often. Sometimes I love very sweet child-like things, other times vintage items from every possible era but my bond with clothing also goes a lot further than anything aesthetically. A lot of times my love for something is defined by what I associate with it and in my own personal wardrobe it's also intrinsically connected to memories (like the other day I threw away my dark green pencil skirts because I wore them all the time at a time in my life when I felt very stifled, anxious and sad and I just couldn't wear those anymore because not only the memory of that time hurt me, the skirts themselves literally stifled me and limited free body movements). BUT I guess at this moment in time? I kind of have to go with the fluff dress of Meadham Kirchoff SS12 collection. I want a fluffy dress so bad!

What should people know about Belgium
I don't know? Belgium is kind of surreal, in an unsurreal way. It has a history of being overrun by other countries because of its location and the influences of that are very tangible, I think. On one hand you can feel that in our collective personality; we are pretty apologetic and self-deprecating. On the other, people (very much including Belgians themselves!) very obviously feel as if we have no actual nationality, or culture, but I think exactly that is what typifies Belgium; the fact that there is no very clearly defined "Belgianness". Also our buildings from the Middle Ages and Art Deco are pretty!

What books are you currently loving?
Ooh! Seriously still amazed by Anna Kavan, I've also been loving Edith Wharton a whole lot (seriously, read her short stories! Age of Innocence is next on my to-read list) but most recently I've been loving a lot of graphic novels. I really enjoyed Clumsy, a sweet story about a long distance relationship, drawn in a rudimentary clumsy (ha!) way which really grows on you. Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi was really good and I would heartily recommend it to anyone, especially women and girls. The Pushman and Other Stories by Yoshihiro Tatsumi kind of freaked me out and I'm still wondering what I actually think about it. On that note I read Junji Ito's Tomie and was scared to go to seep despite the fact that it was way more funny than actually scary (stop coming back, Tomie!) Also non-graphic novel related: I am pretty much head-over-heels with Saki, who writes witty, animal-filled short stories (check it out!).

Where do you get the most inspiration for your outfits?
This is cheesy but I honestly get inspiration for my outfits everywhere: the other day I saw a really beautiful leaf falling down in a rich red and very warm green, lined by an amazing yellow and decided to build up an outfit around that. A lot of times colour contrasts inspire me. Several months ago I read some stupid theoretic text about colours which claimed that for a dark-haired woman the perfect outfit consists of the colours, salmon pink, green and yellow so I hung that sentence up and will play around with one day. Sometimes I check out way too many Japanese street style blogs (currently loving cult party kei) and make something around that. Or I see a girl on a blog or the street layering skirts over dresses and save that idea in my 'must try out in outfit asap' folder in my head. Sometimes I simply build something around one piece of clothing. So basically: everything.

Roma: What is your greatest thrift find?

Eline: Greatest thrift find? I don't know there are so many! Almost all of my clothes are thrifted, but I guess I'd have to pick my leopard coat because it was my first ever second hand purchase and something I'd been pretty much obsessed about finding for a while. I don't wear it all that often any more, but it still very precious to me. I still remember the exact moment I bought it and being super psyched about it with my friend.

Blueberry Muffins or Vogue Magazine?
Blueberry muffins for sure, especially the moist, fluffy and buttery kind yummmm!

Anything you want people to know about a Fluffy Blog??
Haha, I don't know actually, the url?

You can check out Eline on her blog
*All photos are from Elines Blog/ Tumblr.

catladysoul: this is me

So I've been thinking for a while about possibly doing a zine. Finally I've decided this zine will be written. I've also decided said zine will be called Butch.
Butch is most likely going to be a 1 issue zine, if enough people are interested, I might do a second sister issue. This is going to be my solo project, not to be confused with Bella's ongoing zine project. Got it? Anyway, I'm really excited I've always wanted to choose what I want to see in a zine. I know there are PLENTY of zine's and magazines out there that are pro-feminism and share a ton of ideas I agree with, but the idea of getting to choose articles is just so wonderful sounding.
I don't want people to think I'm ripping off Bust, Rookie, or anything else out there.
Here's some info about what I'm looking for and when I need it

  • Photo Journals/ Editorials, please send them as an attachment
  • Playlists
  • Short essays, preferably under 1000 words.
  • Poems
  • Short Stories
  • Journal Pages
  • Reviews about music, cinema, clothing, books
  • Top 10 Lists
  • Moodboards
email me any submissions of any kind. Remember, this is a pseudo feminist magazine, you can be open about virtually anything. I don't want Butch to be super hard-core. I want it to be radtastic if you know what I mean.
You can email me submissions at: romabkins@gmail.com
Butch has no current theme , depending on submissions I will decide from there.
I need all submissions by SUNDAY OCTOBER 23RD at 11pm est.
After that all submissions will be reviewed. Butch is currently scheduled to come out around American Thanksgiving.
